Carburetor ID... Marvel schebler

Hi everyone. I have found a fuel leak on my tractor. What I've been doing to minimize the leak after I shut the tractor off is to turn the fuel off, then let the tractor run out of gas.

If I shut the tractor off, then turn off the fuel, I can see gas dripping from the carburetor. It looks like it's running down to the bottom of the float bowl, then drips off of the drain plug.

The hose from the air cleaner to the carburetor looks like it could stand to be replaced, I'm thinking that I want to freshen up the carburetor while I'm there.

It is a marvel schebler carb, and has the letter G stamped into the neck where it mounts to the manifold. What model do I have?

" I want to freshen up the carburetor while I'm there."

There are 6 things critical to a successful carb rebuild:

1. RTFM. Read The Freakin Manual....in this case:

If you don?t rebuild a lot of carbs, lay out each piece you remove on a clean shop towel so that you don?t lose the little screws/jets, etc.

2. Get the very caustic cleaner that comes w/ a wire basket from your local auto store & follow the directions.

3. Use a wire, welding rod tip or whatever it takes to clean every single passage. Be careful w/ the wire; you do not want to bore out the passages. If you do not have a set of gunsmith screwdrivers to remove the jets, be very, very careful. (this is an excuse to get a set)

4. Blow out every passage w/ compressed air (this is an excuse to buy a compressor, BTW)

5. Make sure both halves mate; use a straight edge.

6. Make sure the throttle bushing are ok before you start because most kits do not come w/ them. If you need throttle bushings, replace them or the tractor will never idle due to air leaking.

The info you need to figure out what carb you have is on a brass tag on the engine side of the carb so to read what is on that tag you have to pull the carb off the engine. If in fact a M/S carb on an N series it will be a tsx 33 or 241 A, B, or C. All 3 take the same kit. I buy Walker brand kits from O'Reilly's auto part store for around $20 Part #778-505A

i looked behind the carb with an inspection mirror, and i didn't find any brass tags. it does have marvel schebler cast into both sides of the float bowl, and the same words stamped into the mounting flange.

I think you have a carb built from a couple of different ones there.
Not an issue, it works.
Brush off the part circled in the picture to see if you can tell what model it is.
