carburetor problems with 135

TTS in Mo.

My 135 won"t stay running. It will die as soon as it runs the carb dry. If I wait a while it will restart with the same results. I just pulled the bottom off the carburetor and the float doesn"t seem to be sticking. Thanks

First simple thing to check: Unscrew the line at the carb and let it run into a jug or back into a gas can. It should have a good steady flow. If it does stop, unscrew the fuel cap. The vent in the gas cap may be plugged not letting air in. If that"s not it, there is a screen on the top of your sediment bowl assembly that could be plugging. Siphon the tank dry, then pull the sediment bowl out to see if that is plugged. There should also be a screen on the inlet elbow of the carb that would be easy to check.

sounds like gearhead hit it out of the park on this one,

I too would try all the things he said.

if you determine it's not gas flow related, then you might try a different coil, I have had a coil get hot and kill the motor, let it cool, tractor fires back up and run until the coil gets hot.

also the condenser can be a problem.

just a few other things to try/replace, if it's not fuel flow related.

are all your wires good, do you have spark to plugs when it dies????????

these run and stop problems can be real tough to chase down sometimes.

when you find the problem, please let us know what you found wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks to everyone for their responses. I sprayed some carb cleaner in the float and throat area and put it back together. It started up and kept running this time. Ran it for 15 or 20 minutes. seems to be working although there is a lot more smoke than normal. Almost like the choke is on which it isn"t. Probably because it has been 6 months or more since it was last started. I am going to run it some more tomorrow and hopefully it will clear up. On another note the tractor is leaking a lot of oil at the rear of the motor towards the top. Almost looks like a pressure release valve or something. I noticed it last fall while brush hogging. I know I should have done something with this problem before now but I simply forgot about it until I went to start it today. Worlds worst procrastinator. I am not sure where to start on this problem so any help will certainly be appreciated. Thanks again for the responses on the carburetor issue. It is probably time for a kit to be put in it. The tractor sits way more than its used.

TTS how far up the block about half way then you see oil? My first thought would be the oil pressure line that runs to the gauge if not then valve cover gasket.

I am not sure Trac how far up it is. I don't believe It is at a line but can't see it well enough to tell. I guess I will have to take the sheet metal off and gas tank for a better look. I will let you know what I find when I get some time to do that. Thanks for your help.
