Hello everyone.
I have a Ford 8N.
With an original carburetor.
The carburetor is rusted really bad inside.
I ran it through two different solutions
(Simple green & CLR)
through a ultrasonic cleaner.
it’s still coming out rusty.
does anyone have any suggestions of what I can do next?
Or is it just the best to purchase an OEM carburetor?

I had one on a TO30 fergy, that had so much rust in the bowl gas would not flow out with the drain plug removed.

I scraped off all that I could and soaked in vinegar for days, still bad rust.

I didn't try electrolysis, might have worked better?

Careful use of muriatic acid got it back to solid metal quick. Be careful using it and have water/baking soda to neutralize it.

Realize it's cast iron and when cleaned bare it will "flash rust" quickly. See pic for flash rust of cleaned carb.

So it just seems I just can't get it clean enough. Is there another solution I should try as available out there to put in the ultrasonic cleaner?

Did you get all the grease/oil off first? What are you removing, rust or other deposits?

The old Zep dip worked great but was nasty stuff. Haven't tried the newer dips.

Yes I sure did. The outside looks great.
Inside the bowl there at the bottom seems like it's rust I've been trying to use a stiff brush down in there to get it cleaned up. I've been working on this project for my brother-in-law. He wants to just to buy a new carburetor. If that's the case do you have any recommendations for an aftermarket complete carburetor.

Ospho [phosphoric acid] will dissolve the rust. Available at Ace hardware and others.

When the parts are clean,I coat them with ATF.

Using a cheap siphon sand blaster with a 10 lb bag of baking soda. Cheap at Walmart or Amazon. Wash in HOT water when done and immediately blow dry. The soda dissolves and cleans out easily in hot water,

Sounds like the carb on my Fergy.

Muriatic acid made short work of it. Right down to clean metal.

I poured a small amount into bottom of bowl to start with, as it was hard rusty slag, then rinsed and repeated. Don't overdo it. Can use an eyedropper or q-tip to apply once majority of rust is dissolved.

Stop by Tractor Supply and pick up some evaporust. Soak it for about a week and you will be amazed! The evaporust will only attack the iron oxide.
