Looking at this one:

https://stjoseph.craigslist.org/grd/5960750362.html

I know it will need the hyd cly and hoses.

Can anyone ID the model?

Is this a good disk?

What are the chains hanging from the front gang and their use?

Can this be pulled by a 50HP 4x4 tractor?

If anyone has a suggestion on a better disk or has one for sale within 3 hours of Kansas City, MO let me know.

Thanks

BJ

50 hp should handle that ok. Those chains are there to prevent dirt plugging up the spools, The front will plug way before the rear will, when it's to wet.

That should be a very good disc. It looks like a late model with sealed bearings so bearings are available at auto parts stores like napa, altho you may need to order them. The chains are there because the scrapers are lost or broken and are to keep the gangs from plugging in wet conditions. Parts are generly available at salvage yards for those. If you need them my local yard has plenty of rts and if they won't ship them to you I will. Last time I was there they had several pallets of parts including spools and scrapers.

The only problem with modern 50 hp tractors is their small tires and many times they are not ballasted
heavy enough for tillage work. If uou can het the traction you have plenty of hp.

That's a model S or SA depending on whether it's got bearings or bushings. I have a Maryland loam soil on my farm, and my Racine 400 diesel pulls it with ease. That's about a 50 hp tractor. Mine is the bushing model, keep it well greased. Before you buy measure the discs, if they wore it'll cost you as much as he's asking for the disc, if not more..........

Looks to be a very nicely maintained model SA. I spent many-many hrs on a 50+ hp LA pulling a 12' up and down our hills here in NY. That is a very good disc, and since you are only looking for a 10' you probably don't plan on using it on a regular basis. Should last you a lifetime.

In my area that would be a fair price for a 10', you can get the 12 and 14' for less becauseball the horse folks want the little ones. This one has good blades which is rare.
