case 100 rake

I've found a Case 100 side delivery rake on Craig's List. Looks like it is usuable with some different tires. Any pros/ cons? I'm hoping to get it for about $100. I would have some drive time with a trailer invested but could probably recoup most of the money for scrap if it didn't work out. Teeth available?

Looks like teeth are still available both Case and aftermarket- part 10689K. See link below for parts diagram - navigate to the reel bar page with the pop-down list at the top.

Also looks like the tine bar bearings are still available, and surprisingly seem to cross-reference to a standard 6204 bearings available anywhere (might want to double-check that just to make sure).

Whatever the case, it's hard to go wrong with any piece of equipment for $100. Give her a couple of used car tires from a scrapyard, some teeth, some grease, and see what happens. Bar rakes are generally pretty hard to kill.

Just remember to adjust for the optimal windrow - angle the teeth forward so they lift the crop and make a lighter, fluffier windrow for faster drying.

... and make sure whatever tires you chose are the same size (or else one will be doing all the work and slipping) and have ok-ish tread. Some of those older ground-driven rakes were a little light, and without some meaty tread they'd slip in heavy hay. You see some where people have hung cinder blocks on the back to weigh the tires down more and make sure they don't slip.
