Good day all,

I have ran across a clean 1000 with 90% undercarriage and cab but bad motor, it seems impossible to find a 403 or 382 here in BC, I don't
see any information on bellhousing size or anyone repowering there crawler with something else.
does anyone have any experience with an engine swap? or know of an engine for sale?

I have searched for an old compressor, welder, pump ect with a Continental in it, but haven't had much luck

thank you

seller has head off, said head needs to be redone, engine loose, he is looking for an engine himself to swap and sell for more if he finds one

Send me phone # and I'll call you.

I have had 1000's for the last 50 years and

have rebuilt several . Have machine shop and

have made some parts for them.

If you have crank, balancer & pump drive ,most

everything else is rebuildable.

A long shot, but the MH 55 and 555 had the 382 Massey engine built by Continental...maybe some parts interchange.

Very similar ,but does not have balancer or full flow oil filter sys.

Block may or may be drilled for the oil sys. Without balancer they are

designed to run at 1500 , with balancer at 2000. oil pump is on the

balancer ,without it drives from the crank gear.Fuel sys is roosa master

that drives from cam at distributor location. Trans pump drives from

timing gears except on 1000D which is mounted on the torque converter,

along with the main hyd pump.

when I was distributor , I got all the gaskets fel pro had in the main

distribution center.

Bearings are like hens teeth ,I remake the rods to fit case brgs ,and

have made mains out of large MM rod brg.

Hi George,
Nice picture, clean machine.

Funny thing,
I just ran across two 1000 crawlers with engine
Transplants.

One had a Detroit 4-53 or maybe a 3-53
The other had a Cummins 4BT installed.
Can't remember now where I saw them,lol

Flywheel housing is SAE 3 isn't it?

Hope all is Well,
Merry Christmas
Tom

I'm not familiar enough with your engine but it sounds like you have some good advice coming from some of the other posts. I assume there were serious issues with those engines decades ago from the get-go. The dealership in Sweden that sold the 1000 models brand new would pull the engines out and install Volvo diesels before they left the yard for the first time. Even those Volvo diesels are probably obsolete by now but they must have had the retrofit down to a science at the time.
