Well I thought I had this tractor fixed; I replaced the regulator as the new one on it evidently had points stuck on the regulator and draining my battery's over a few days; still doin it! New batteries, new genny and regulator; what the heck can drain my batteries on a diesel tractor with the keys off? Thanks

"draining my battery's over a few days"

A stuck cut out (one of the relays inside the VR) will drain the batteries a LOT sooner than over a couple of days (and get the generator darned hot and probably let the smoke out of it).

You've got a bad battery(s) or some small electrical "drain" if it takes over a half-day or a day to drain the batteries.

Is it possible the fuel gauge (and any other electric gauges) remain powered up with the key switched "off"?

Does it use a charge indicator lamp (which could be improperly wired, if present) or just an Ammeter?

My two cents get a cheap inductive amp meter that you hold over a wire and you should be able to track it down. Next you have been fighting this for awhile do not get careless when jump starting this with dead batteries. On owers I threw all the generator stuff in the bottom of the creek and put an alternator on and rewired it (have my reasons for this). Good luck

Find a SMALL 12 volt bulb, like a dash light bulb, and wire it in series with one of the battery cables, right at the battery.

If it glows with the key off, there is a drain. It might not be real bright, but it still indicates current flow.

Now go unhook things, wires, lights, pull fuses, etc., ONE AT A TIME and watch the bulb. If it goes out, you are close to your problem. Be sure to reconnect each of these items if it doesnt affect the bulb before moving on to the next item.

Be advised that nothing will work on the tractor, as ALL current needs to flow thru that little bulb, and that wont be much current. For example, if you turn on the lights, the little bulb will glow brightly, but your main lights wont even begin to glow.

I have a decent dig multimeter- I think- always worked ok but cant get Amps to read on it; I switched to Volts and took off
positive battery cable and it shows .05V with key off and .08 with key on- thanks.

This is one of those things where it may just be easier to rewire and replace stuff as needed. Just about every 30 series Case we have has had this done - along with an new 10si alternator. Need a good roll of wire, a few hours, and some patience.

Matt
