Case 1070 won't move

I have an early Case 1070 with the powershift. I was pulling a chisel plow with it, lifted it up turned around put it back down went about 50 feet and the tractor stopped moving. There wasn't any unusual or alarming sounds made when this happened. With the tractor running I can shift the powershift and the engine still surges like it always has. With the power shift in any position I can shift the range transmission into any gear without any hesitation or grinding. It still has power steering, brakes, a working 3 point, and pto. Yesterday I drained the fluid out of it and discovered some small steel chips in the fluid.

Any help to point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Jeff

Jeff,
I would say the three bolts that hold the gear on the end of the sliding gear shaft broke and the gear is on the bottom of transmission. This was common on early 9&1070. If that happened it can be fixed by removing C-1&C4 clutch pack, unless you can not remove the the three broken bolts.

So if the three bolts broke and the gear is laying in the bottom, I'm in for a split right? From what I gather from the manual I have to split it and take the transmission cover off to get the oil tubes out and the bolts out of the back of the powershift so it can be removed. One of the packets i got from the dealer show the powershift coming out as one complete unit and the other shows complete disassembly of it to get it out. Which of these are correct? The serial number of the tractor is 8734261. I'm going to have to pull the cab off to get it into my shop to work on it. Am I in for a major headache removing the cab?

Thanks
Jeff
