Case 1175 Engine Temperature Gauge Isn't Working

Hello everyone,
The engine temp gauge wasn't working when I bought the tractor so I pulled the wire off the sender and touched it to ground and it pegged the gauge all the way to the right. I just installed a new sending unit and nothing changed. On closer examination, the gauge is not just staying in the black. With the key off the gauge shows slightly in the yellow. When I turn the key on, the gauge pegs hard to the left and stays there. I've attached a clip. Anyone have ideas?

Yep, A66733 bought from Messick's, brand new in a sealed bag.
Did you use a thread sealer on the sender threads?? Years ago I install a new sender on a 1030 case that did the same thing. Turned out I had used a tiny too much thread sealer and did not let sender work right
Had to take it out clean it up and reinstall it. Then all was well.

No, I actually didn't use any type of thread sealer, just snugged it up tight and it didn't leak. I pulled the panel and took the signal wire and the lamp wire loose, leaving only the power wire connected and the gauge still pegs left when I turn on the key . I ohmed the signal wire to make sure it wasn't grounded somewhere and it was clear. I guess I just have a bad gauge, I've got a new one ordered. I'll update the post when I get it installed...

Could you sneak a mechanical gauge up through there ? I know it's tight.
They seem to be more accurate. Dad put one on 1070.

Actually it's not that tight on my tractor now. I used a 5-1/4" hole saw to create access hole, made it easy to access. The trim pieces will cover the hole and since I didn't cut across the channel in the sheet metal it really doesn't compromise the stiffness of the cowl. Pic below.

I installed the new gauge and it works as expected now, likely nothing was wrong with the original sender. Now on to the next issue...

There was a SN break on the 70 series, before and after were different senders and they do not interchange.
