case 1175 hydraulic fluid/ filter etc

i have a case 1175 that i have been slowly refurbishing. I have a manual coming in the mail but i need to use it asap.I need to add hydraulic fluid. The only plugs i have seen was on the left side. 1 plug says add the other says good. Dunno why they didnt just use 1 plug but whatever.

1. I am assuming its all in one trans/rearend and hydraulics? Also what type of fluid does it call for? Whats the fluid number so i can cross reference it?

2.Is there a transmission or a hydraulic filter that i should change out?

You say plugs on LH side. Sounds like someone has removed the sight glasses and installed plugs of some sort. As far as trans fluid, go to your friendly CNH dealer and buy Hytran which is formulated for your 1175. You will need to go there for your hyd filter anyway.
I posted this page from the opp. manual last week for another Case newby. Pay special attention to item #4 and 5, and be sure you don't leave either of them in the bottom of your drain bucket. That simple mistake, and the wrong tranny fluid has caused the majority of hydraulic problems and Power Shift failures in 70 series tractors.

I thought they were plugs because i didnt realize they used sight glasses and they were black from dirt and grime. They are in fact sight glasses.--thanks for the info.

I got around to draining fluid/changing filter etc. I was real mindful not to let the spring or relief valve or anything come out f the canister. Took it all off and i have no relief valve. I am sure i didnt lose it taking it off, i checked the drain bucket underneath with a magnet and no luck.---I dont have a relief valve. No matter what there should have been one iinside the filter container correct? Just wanted to make sure they didnt put them somewhere on some tractors for whatever reason. I also dont think both o rings are there either.

The relief valves would often stick in the cork on the end of the filter and in years past may have been discarded by a unknowing person servicing the tractor. You must get a replacement and install it or unfiltered oil will go to the tractor systems served by that pump section.

In your case it's not quite as bad as you have no powershift to have the valve contaminated. I would guess that the majority of powershifts that go down are because of the valves missng or a severe lack of maintanance.

BTW, those valves are extremely expensive new.

Man you aint kidding...I just checked with the local tractor house and they said it would be over 300 bucks. I think 306 actually. I am sure yall will kill me but i just dont see myself replacing it. The tractor is old and beat up, the oil had gotton water in it. The first time its been changed in...forever probably, Whats done is done. I am the "new" owner.I know it could still cause damage but at least it is better than what it was.

James!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you care about the tractor you will look for a used one at least, there are good reputable used parts dealers on here. If you dont get one don't bother paying for a filter as it serves no purpose if the end is wide open for trash to go to the precision valves in circuit.

I would not kill you but I admit to being a little taken back by your response, If that tractor is not worth putting 300 dollars in bring it to Pa. n i'll give you 400. .

If the engine works good and the hydraulcs do also the pump must be good. I just can't see your rationale if you need the tractor. Regardless of it's condition there are people who would love to have that tractor and if certain on here had it in 6 months you wouldn't recognize it.

A good place to start lookin for that part would be Fred Goodrich in NY and I only say him cause he is a late model salvage yard and has helped me out in the past. So has DonL and John Saeli and Thad, so It's hard to recommend one over the other.

yeah im not real happy about doing that. I wasnt sure if those things ever went bad or not. I understand about the filter not having much of a point without the valve. I have no idea how long it has been out as it is. The guy i bought it from just used it for shredding a few times a year.

The thing is i paid for the tractor, had to pay to have it hauled in, the small leak in the radiator couldnt be fixed like i assumed so i had to buy another one......hoses, filters....cables....$$$$$ ...that is why its pretty hard for me to buy a 300 dollar valve. I understand things cost money but that is insane.

I will try and find a used valve either now or the next time i change the hydraulic fluid...im thinking that should be soon as it had water in it and im sure there is still some left in the lines and crevices etc.
