case 1175 pto clutch

hey guys, hopefully someone can help me out......ive got a case 1175 and i am attempting to replace the pto clutch. I have that section out or the factory manual and ...? nothing really looks like it does in the book, although it very well could be me not reading it right.

To be clear, in the rear of the tractor there are two hydraulic lines going into small box/plate etc........is the clutch plates inside of there? According to the book i was suppose to be able to take that off of the tractor and the clutch pack would be attached to the tractor ....well that is not the case. What i assumed wass the clutch pack came off with the "box" that the two hydraulic lines goes into...........maybe my parts guy gave me the wrong plates i dunno but they do not appear to be able to fit in there.--------before i kept taking things apart i wanted to verify i was doing the right thing.

From your discription you took the hyd pumb off. You have to drain all the tranny fluid about 17gal. Remove the drawbar, take the bolts out of the drawbar/3pt mtg assy. and let it swing down. Then you have to remove all the bolts and nuts holding the rear tranny housing to the back of the gearcase. Two 5/8"x 6" dowel bolts will save you some grief when disassembling and reassembling. This housing is heavy, more than a man can handle without a cherry picker.
This may be more complicated than you want to tackle, and your guy that is guiding you apparently is not knowledgable about your tractor either.

I had a feeling it wouldnt be this easy. No one is really guiding me...and i dont know a whole bunch about tractors if you cant tell. The book didnt describe anything like you said that i could tell.....but its obvious that what im doing aint right. This tractor needs to be up and moving asap---wont lie, if i had emotions i would probably cry right now. :(

edit--heck yeah, youre right that is exactly what i took off. Im an idiot. I thought the pump was on the side. Learning new things suck.--------while on the subject, the teeth are good but the beveled area that touches first has a little uneven wear. More so on the tractor side. Just eneough to notice to visually notice. Nothing that would keep it from working ut curious if it means something to you.-thanks.

It will turn the pto but when pressure is applied, like with a shredder in heavy weeds it will basically stop. I think i read where there was no adjustment for the cable but yall in here told me to try a few things and i did but it didnt seem to help. ---i should have checked pressure but i did not. All i have is a fuel pressure tester for a car and dont know how well that would work, and didnt realize i would have to take that heavy piece off. I might find a way to get that checked as i really got to get this going.

As you said You need to check pressure before doing anything more. It should be about 200psi + -.The pto valve on the side of tranny should be either in or out to be correct. Part way in ruins clutch packs.

there is a place to screw into on the side to test pressure correct? --i guess harbor freight or auto parts house would have some type of guage i could use.

thanks for your help. i appreciate it. I would appreciate it more if you come and fix it for me :) --- i looked up hyd. pump for that tractor and .....a little pricey. I never knew.

Take the 3/8" steel tube of the right side of the rear housing, as you are facing it, and plumb in a Tee directly in the housing with your gauge installed and the jic adapter screwed in it and the tube back on the adapter. That will tell you a lot, about the condition of the clutch pack and if the control spool is adjusted correctly.

Ok, its bouncing around at 150-160 (no liquid filled guage so i guess thats why its fluttering like that) . I cant really tell by looking at the pto cable that its in all the way or not but i have adjusted it so it would go in further than what it was...i believe about as far as possible, when i first realized i had a problem.--its a new to me tractor so i dont know when this issue first happened

so is this a done deal that my pump is bad? Can i rebuild it? When i took it off before i went as far as taking the front cover off the pto pump. There were two o rings there that at least one that i would say was "worn", i dont believe it came up flush with the surface when it was in the groove, or at least part of it didnt look like it did. It did not look chewed up like i have seen them in hydr. cyl's when they went out. It appeared intact but just not full eneough to work. Much of a chance of that being the issue?

does anyone know what the hydraulic pressure should be. I looked in my book and i am seeing 2 different numbers. Dont know if im reading something wrong or what......one says 180-200 and the other shows....230-260? (book is not in front of me but it was somewhere close to that).....also how much does it matter if its at operating temp? Or rpms? Also, another thing is that even though the pto is off, the shaft will still spin. Just seems odd that it spins when off but wont perform correctly when on.

If anyone has anything at all to tell me please do. I need to fix this asap and im a little stuck on what to do at the moment.
