I have a Case 1184 with a solid Diesel engine. Solid runner.
BUT..
Needs new water pump (engine overheats and I have cleaned the system, replaced cap/thermostat/hosesno leaks it just heats up and blows it out the overflow)
PTO works
3point hitch raises but needs to be pushed back downhydraulic fluid going into some mysterious dimension but not onto my garage floorabout 5 gallons per year the top point of the 3 points is a small hydraulic cylinder that seems to be stuck and the adjustment switch is stuck fast in placecan t be moved without breaking it off.
Tires and rims are near the end, front end is near desperate.
Hydraulic steering system runs off engine oil? It screams loudly with any movement and seems slow to respond but worksfor now.
Can anyone tell me if this is worth going throughare parts available? Or should I sell it and make it someone else s problem and buy something better? Recommendations? (Newersince I m older and getting sick of fixing constantly!)
Thanks to all you Case expertsi m stumped!

As for fixing constantly , better get NEW ... that way you can bring
it back to store ..
I my self have nothing but older stuff and that's the nice part .. I
can still fix it { that's my cars too } myself ...

maybe that's just me .. mark

Don t get me wrong, this is my NEWEST tractor. But it s the one I find myself fixing constantly. At a glance the parts needed will run about $6,500. Where I live that buys a pretty low hour used tractor. So my question is whether this one will run well after it is gone through for some time or whether there are more reliable farm tractors out there that I won t have to live under. This is not a case of an unlimited budget but common sense. My other three machines are between 54 and 104 years old and they start/run/park/repeatI m just getting tired of the constant maintenance repairs on my newest tractor. Do these things have a death wish or did I just buy something all played out?

If you think it will cost $6500 in parts to fix it, you need to dump it. You would still have a tractor that you don't know how to fix after that $6500. I know these like the back of my hand and can't think of What $6500 in parts would possibly entail.

A nice clean original with a loader and 1100 original 1 owner hours just sold for $5500 near me last summer.

I guess that s the answer I was looking for it needs an 6-12V conversion, clutch pressure platesoon. Rings, bearings (runs pretty good but needs a squirt of hot juice to start cold), water pump, radiator, all front end parts, power steering pump and hoses, all meters, 3 point hitch hydraulic overhaul, front and rear tires and rims, front grill, probably all new engine and hydraulic seals to fix leaks.and I m thinking to just fix the water pump so it doesn t overheat and sell it on. Use the money towards a better tractor.
Thanks for the advice.

I guess that s the answer I was looking for it needs an 6-12V conversion,

You have a 6 volt battery in it? No wonder it wont start without ether.

If it will start with a 6 volt battery, the engine is plenty healthy. Surprised you haven't fried the starter yet running that low of voltage to it.

Sounds like some reading might be the most valuable part you can throw at it.
