case 1190 power steering problems

I am Having a problem troubleshooting my case 1190 power steering problem. Can anyone help?

What is it doing or not doing? Weve worked on several of them at times. Thad

It is very noisey. It is jerky and oversteers.(When I stop turning the wheel it keeps going especially at higher RPM's)
It changes with RPM and is too hard to manage to be able to drive.

I may need to give you the history.
A few years ago I replaced the power steering pump and rebuilt the steering cylinder. I actually used a new pump meant for a 1290(If I remember correctly) because it was so much cheaper(I beleive all I had to do was change the drive pulley shaft bore).
It worked well for several years until the pump seal began leaking and air began getting into the system and oil was being pushed into the valve cover.(It took a while to learn what was causing that)
Then the hose between the resevoir and the pump developed a large hole and that is when things went bad. I replaced the pump and bled the system, however, it still acts like it did when the hole developed. I may have bought a bad pump. The pump was no longer available new, so I found one on ebay. The person had 6 of them and said they were new. It truly looked
new.
When I first installed it the fluid poured out the shaft seal. I replaced the shaft seal thinkng it had probably become hard from sitting on the shelf for years. It doesn't leak now.

I wonder if the steering valve is bad. I can't figure out how to dis-assemble the spool. I think there is a gasket or two onside of it, however, I am not 100% sure.

I guess my first guess would be have you checked the filter? The steering orbit motors are only sealed on the ends. The rest of it is a machined fit. My expierence with them when they go bad is they want to drift to one side or the other. You have to keep slightly steering one way slowly to stay straight. It does sound like you are still getting air in the system. Try the filter if you havent changed it. Thad

We were having problems with the power steering on our 1190 blowing fluid out the overflow. After changing the filter and fluid (back to TCH), we still had problems. So, we had the powerr steering pump and the steering cylinder rebuilt. We are still having trouble with the steering being stiff and acting up some.

Does anyone know if it is possible that the non-return valve and/or the spool valve and sleeve is know for going bad on the backend of the steering cylinder? If so, would it make the steering stiff. I know that valve at the back of the cylinder is supposed to equalize the pressure to make it steer even both directions. Could that be allowing fluid to bypass and making it hard to steer? It should have new seals put in it, when we had it rebuilt. So, I wouldn"t think those would be bad, unless they pinched one, when installing them.
