Case 1194 Fluids

I need to change the the power steering & hydraulic fluids in my tractor.
I think Im pretty safe using Super Tech Heavy-Duty Tractor Hydraulic and Transmission Fluid

But what should I use for P/S?

I use automotive PS fluid in my PS systems. I like it because I know that its designed for the types of components in that system rather than using a common fluid that does other jobs in the tractor, unless there would be a common sump type thing that used one sump for multiple functions....PS, PTO, hydraulics, differential, tranny maybe.

You didn't ask, but be SURE to use the correct brake fluid IF you need to add any, TYPICALLY, these D.B.'s use a brake fluid other than automotive brake fluid as the brakes are INTERNAL and any leaks go into the transmission oil.

Your Operator's Manual, or a decal near the brake fluid reservoir will tell you what to use, or contact a CIH dealer BEFORE making a $$$ mistake that will require a rebuild of the entire brake system.

What tractor uses separate brake fluid? All my tractors have mechanically activated brakes, some wet and some dry disc. My vehicles with liquid powered brakes all use DOT 3 fluid.

Are you arguing with me?

I know it's probably hard to figure out from this thread, but David Brown and certain tractors they built for CASEIH use "mineral oil brake fluid".

Possibly some newer blue Ford, Ford New Holland, and CNH tractors, as well.

Very expensive things happen when you don't verify, for sure, what the specific tractor you are dealing with uses, as the rubber parts have a swelling reaction to the wrong fluid.

Hello Ramzi, welcome to YT! Check your Private Messages that are accessed through the letter or envelope icon at the above right. I have sent you a message with info there for you.

IF the hydraulic pump for the power steering is direct mount to the engine and not belt driven I would just use engine oil in the power steering.IF the pump leaks on it the oil will not hurt the engine that way. I have run engine oil in my semi for that reason for 25 years and a 1,200,000 miles on it yest that number is right. million two hundred thousand miles. No problem with the pump or the oil nor the steering even in cold weather. Only leak is the hoes clamps on the hoses for the reservoir to the steering box. IT is time to change them again now for the second time in those 25 years. There is also a filter in those separate oil reservoirs under the lid remove lid and then remove filter. Most don't even know there is a filter in there. I have changed mine in the past and probably not as often as I should have or the oil.

I found this in the tech manual
Power SteeringCase TFD Fluid1글 qt
1 1/4 litres
Which Im assuming is the same as Hy Trans (AW46)
