Case 1490 pto engaging issue

I have a case 1490. My dad took it out to go mow some hay this morning and said he couldn’t get the PTO engaged. He was trying to engage the PTO without the power takeoff clutch lever disengaged. I explained to him how to do it. He said he got the PTO selector lever engaged, and when he went to lower the power takeoff clutch lever it popped out the PTO selector lever and now the PTO selector lever is stiff. Any ideas of what could be wrong?

Hello Tony, welcome to YT! No answers
yet but I thought I would at least give you a response. I know nothing about your tractor, some info I found on it says it was made in England so it must have some David Brown ancestry. It might be possible if you posted this on the Case and David Brown forum in the Manufacturers section you might find someone that can help you there.

I had one of those long ago. I never had the lever get "stiff" to operate but I did have to replace the PTO clutch release bearing because my wife would pull the clutch handle up and leave it there. Your description makes it sound like the shift fork for the PTO may have gotten "tweaked". Many tractors have a cover on the side that gives limited access to the PTO shift. I don't know if the 1490 does or not. Most likely the top cover would have to be removed to access the fork.
