Case 1690 valve seals

Hello, I have a cylinder head at a machine shop getting checked out after a blown head gasket and they are telling me I need to find valve seals, but I can't seem to find a listing or any info about them or even what they look like, did these even come with seals? Or am I looking for something that doesn't exist? Thanks

Like dieseltech says, or you can get those umbrella seals that set on the stem over the guide so they shunt the oil off the side. I would think that the people doing the head work would get them when they do the head as part of the job when they get the valves and or guides. sort of like they want the work but send you to get it milled then bring back. Just I would plan they would do their job on the whole thing. Unless there was a different plan when dropped off for them to work on.

The machine shop says he put new guides and resurfaced the head, not sure about if there was seals on it, he says it looks like the type of seal needed is resesed into the seat, not sure what to do, or where to look, I'd like to get the tractor back together sooner than later, I'm going to stop by the shop today and have a look for myself

OK, that does help, I'll show that to him, I wonder if someone in the past machined the seats to fit a seal, and now we don't know what they used

I never heard of valve seat seals. Valve seat inserts are replaceable valve seats used to repair worn or damaged seats and to restore valve protrusion to keep compression up. Are you sure he is not talking about seat inserts? Either way, I would expect that a shop doing this type work would not be asking me to get parts for them.

Valve seat inserts are shown in the head drawing, in the parts book.

The GUIDES may be machined to accept a "positive valve stem seal", NOT the "seats".

Intake valve stem seals aren't needed as much on a diesel because there isn't high manifold vacuum to draw oil down past the valve stems.
