It does have an extra step.

How long is it from the bottom of the king pin to the bottom of the front axle?

What size are the rear tires?

Has the engine oil pump been rebuilt?

In addition. The standard 2wd 1690 has 21" clearance under the front axle, and 16" under the drawbar frame.

Are the final drives rotated downward from their normal position(removable cover on bottom or back?)?

Seriously though... install a real oil pressure gage and check your oil pump.

Well i just bought the tractor a week ago so i dont know much about it. The rear tires are 16.9x38, the front axle is taller than a normal 1690 so i do not know if it is a high crop or not. I dont think the engine oil pump has been rebuilt because the tack only has 1700 hours on it the only bad thing is the front main oil seal is bad and leaking. Is there anything i should know about these tractors and it is a power shift.

First off, it is a David Brown with case stickers. the David brown tractor club in England is a great resource. www.dbtc.co.uk

The oil pumps had issues, check yours to make sure the gears are hard. At the very least install a real gauge before you trash the engine. The factory idiot light comes on at 7# just in time to tell you your engine is junk. I have seen warning sirens on them too.

Keep your hydraulic/trans oil spotlessly clean, change/clean filters. the hydra-shift does not like dirt.

I have thoughts of doing a 995 or 1210 as a high crop for cultivating and spraying but never seem to have the time. Easy to do as you just rotate the rear final drives 90 degrees, and fab up some longer front spindles.

I think you have to be the judge of whether it was a good buy or not.

Myself, the only way I would buy a 6 cylinder DB is if it was cheap, real cheap, like scrap value plus the tires.

I have a dozen or more 3 and 4 cylinders here... No 6's. They scare me, seen way to many in the shop 25-30 years ago, when I would go to the dealer with my dad for parts. A new tractor has no business in the shop.

Seriously, check your oil pump or install a real gauge, Keep your hydraulic oil clean, and it might be a good machine.
