Case 1845C chain noise when turning

I'm helping firend with his Case 1845C, when turning or pushing heavy load the left side has a loud noise like a chain sprocket noise ?
big question is could it be something else besides hub and alxe ? maybe sprocket inside ? I watch videos where you can remove hub/axle assembly without removing sprocket from inside body ? It's really hard to tell if Left front or Left rear. I guess I may have to pull both front and back hub/axles. Could this be something else besides what I described ?
Thanks in advance to all

One more thing to add , the parking brake does not work, broke , have'nt dug deep into it yet, could that metal piece that slide into area be causing this ?

You could have a bearing going out that will cause some noise. Take your bucket and raise the front wheels off the ground and wiggle the wheel in and out and see how much play is in the bearing and then wiggle it forward and backwards and see how much play is in the chain.
Then try to lift something really heavy that will take the rear wheels of the ground and do the same.
If that doesn't tell you much then take the nuts off that hold the axle in and the whole axle, hub, and sprocket will come out the hole on the side of the machine and give that a good looking over. Gerald

Wheel bearings and drive sprocket needle bearings are the usual suspects. Not too bad of a job just overhauling the whole case, parts was about 500 dollars for sprockets, bearings, drive sprocket and seals. Didn't have to replace the chains.

I have many times seen the park brake pin get into the cluster sprocket when turning once the cable breaks, makes a sort of ratcheting sound as the pin bounces along the egged out holes in the cluster! you can see in there with a good long mirror and flashlight and some serious fancy body twisting. To get the cluster out you have to either pull both axles and remove chains then cluster shaft, then main drive chain and fight the cluster out of the chain tank, if it has a master link in the driven chains the you only need to pull one axle, I would do the front its way easier. I've done lots of them PM if you want

Hi all, i've had some great folks on here help me. Thank you !~!! Had some wonderful phone support this morning. the pump motor chain is loose, prolly 2" slop, plus the sprocket for the pump motor is sliding each way 1" hitting the inside chain case . Now I need to find out how to fix this beast, there doesnt look like there is that much adjustment left on pump motor, I know for sure not enough for how much slop there is in chain !

I'm sure you are going to have to replace the drive chain, as I said in text, another curious point I forgot to ask there was if the motor shaft is all floppy like the bearings are out? The cluster bearings may be out as well, did one once that the cluster shaft was ate almost in half from the bearings being out, The bolt has me curious as well, I will await your pictures on that, the good lord only knows where it came from, Some of the unreal stuff I've found in the chaincases would blow your mind, wrenches, bolts, screw drivers, drawbar pins, the lower metal pices of the covers when both on that side had them attached yet, its unbelievable really!
