I would say it is a pressure switch.

Have you cleaned the shift spools?
Casecollector, how familiar are you with the electric shift power shift transmissions? Noah is correct they do not have the valve body with the dozen or so spool valves like the older hydraulic shift transmissions have. Unless you are just suggesting to clean the mechanisms of the Electric shift solenoid assemblies see link? CNHI Case 2096 parts diagrams

So what's your thoughts on what it could be?

Hello Noah, welcome to YT! Do you have a Case service manual for this tractor? If not I would suggest getting one. Download manuals are the cheapest if you can get by with that. Otherwise Peacful Creek is a good source for printed and bound copies. I would also recommend posting this on the J.I. Case forum in the YT manufacturers section, member John Saeli is very knowledgeable on Case tractors but I don’t think he monitors other forums like this one. I am also not sure how well he knows the electric shift transmissions. I only know enough to be dangerous on the hydraulic shift ones, essentially on those its make sure the spool valves are free in the valve bodies and follow what the pressure tests in the manual tell you.
Also forgot to mention above if you are not familiar with the CNHI parts site that link will allow you to view all the parts sections for your tractor. That is a bit less obvious if you view it on a phone. If you click the 2096 Case diesel… to the right of the home icon it will take you to the main listing index. Also there is a serial number break on that tractor I just picked one. If click the CNH at the left then type in 2096 in Model the two choices for the SN break will show.
