Case 220 with snowcaster

Anyone have or know how good a snowthrowing machine a case 220 is with the original case snowblower ? I have a chance to pick one up for my 220. I"ve seen video of the snowcasters but none on a 10 hp machine. It does seem they have more blades closer together than other single stages. I know my Bolens snowblower on my 10 hp didn"t get the job done..

Mine always worked great for me. With the hydraulic drive, you can go as fast or as slow as your snow conditions will allow, while keeping the engien speed up for full power, and RPM of the blower. Of all the single stage garden tractor snowblowers I"ve had, I"ve liked the one on my Case 220 best. The one I had on my Tube frame bolens worked ok, but it seemed to plug much easier, espeically if it was very heavy wet snow, possibly due to the smaller diameter chute. The case blower has a much larger chute. Its not impossible to plug, but its much harder to do.

Well.. I had the same problem with my 1054 Bolens. I Thought it might be belts slipping but as memory serves, weren't they shaft driven ? Thanks for the input. I just didn't know if the 10 hp was going to be enough to really do a good job throwing it at least 8 to 10 feet.

Bolens tractors were belt and shaft driven to there attachments. There was a double set of belts that ran from the engine down to the PTO assembly mounted on the front axle. Attachments where connected to that with a drive shaft. Bolens used that double set of belts as the PTO clutch as well, there was an arm with an idler on it hooked to the PTO lever. I've used my 1254 with a 33" rear tiller, and the belts never slipped. With the snowblower, I found the gear drive was sometimes, just too fast for the type of snow I had, and its depth. Would have to go forward a little, then press the clutch and stop, and wait for the blower to clear what it had in it, then go forward a little more, and stop, etc. Once I made that first pass down the driveway, I can go back and take half a path, and not have to stop as much.

How far you can throw snow depends on the snow type, how deep it is, and how fast you go. The Case blower can easily throw snow that far, but if its very heavy and wet snow, you'll have to drive slower to do it. if its dry fluffy snow, you'll be able to blow it further and travel faster.

I have a case 222 w/12hp kohler. It does a great job with single stage blower.I"ve noticed if I work it hard,it works much better[ make the engine work] I have truck w/plow,but prefer my little case with snow blower, even in wet, heavy snow.
Just my opinion--Al
