I am usually a JD guy but have been given the opportunity to buy a Case 222 lawn tractor with snow plow and mowing deck. Both the plow and deck look like they were used once and never again. The tract has great paint, good tires, but doesn't run. The owner is asking $250 for everything. Any good or bad thoughts about this would be great to hear. I am thinking this would make a good winter project because I am going to need a riding mower come spring time. Thanks!

Why did you even ask bother to ask here, you should be on your way there with a trailer and cash.

It should have a Kohler K301 in it. Easy to get engine parts unlike many of the other Case-Ingersolls...

Dogs like tractors and beer too. The 222 case is great tractor.

Me again, I'd grab it you can go wrong on $250 for it! Looks to me you don't have to spend any on it if did buy it. If i'm correct it looks like it has rear wheel weights?
I have a 224 and I'm a Deere person also but my opinion the cases was built like a tank back in the 70's. Now days everything plastic.
Like the others said if you don't nab it some else will!
Good luck Mike

Alright you guys sold me. I am going to go and look at it tomorrow and see if it really looks as good as in the pictures. I also want to see if I can easily tell why it isn't running currently besides the owner just doesn't want to mess with it. Thanks!

Buy it. I used a 224 to mow lawn for years and it's about the toughest piece of machinery I've seen. Overhauled the Kohler twice and replaced the PTO clutch twice but nothing else gave trouble. Son rolled it completely upside down in the ditch and after he calmed down we rolled it back over on it's wheels, started it up and continued mowing. It's still sitting in the corner of one of the buildings here, can't remember which one.Jim

They are tough tough tractors. I have a 222 and a 446. I installed PTO's on both tractors and either on will run my 3 point log splitter without running much over idle. The 446 is used at the scout camp down the road. I cut 20 acres there....have hit everything imaginable that young boys can leave in the tall grass. Hit a dutch oven lid....bent the blade and did NOT damage the spindles....Both of my tractors were purchased off E-bay not running. Replace the fuel line from the tank to the engine right away. They get dry and develop slight cracks that will suck a little air. It'll give you fits.

By the time you read this...you should have already picked it up....
