Case 300 - 8 volt battery?

I'm receiving a family owned 300 in the near future and it's got an 8 volt battery.

Is this original? Will it run with a 6 volt?

I'm mostly a formal person but wanted to keep the Case in the family.

people use those 8-volt batteries in there 6-volt system. they work fine.

The purpose/reason for the 8 volt is the
extra power it provides to the starter to
spin the motor over a little faster. The
300 has a limited space for a battery so if
you replace the battery whether 6 or 8 volt
make sure it has a loop handle to put it in
and pull it out.
