Case 301bd engine

They were used in case 850 dozers and been told in some large farm tractors. Need info on 12v high torque starter. Any info would be appreciated.

it would depend on what ring gear for sure you have, but any starter off a 70 series or later should bolt up and work, I've swapped 12V 800 case starter into and 855D before just to get it the crawler mobile to do a proper repair, it was literally a bolt and go deal

If this is the old style indirect injection 301, in the past we were able to fit a 1030 starter on it, with good batteries and heavy cables the motor turned over a lot faster, just be sure to check the number of teeth on the starter drive to be sure they are the same count

301bd is a direct injected, appears that it was not used on the ag side, you would want to count teeth on the 24V starter drive versus whatever 12V you find, but a Racine built tractor from the big 400 up to the end has the same starter mounting hole, which would also apply to the CE engines prior to the CDC's

Ok. Thanks for all the replies. I wired the batts. To 24v and floated the 12v alternator. Just to prove the point. Cranked great. So the starter is a 24. Now. We are discussing and cussing the idea of going back to 24 and getting another 34 alternator single wire. We just don’t have a lot of 24 experience. 12v starter $400. Alternator $100. Plus 2 batts.
