Case 310 belt replacement guidance

I would like to replace my belt. It's not broken, but shows significant signs of cracks and brittle. Normally I would replace a belt like this without hesitation. But this looks like a big job. How big? How far out does the pulley need to slide to release the belt? Any suggestions is appreciated.

Loosen the four bolts holding the coupling flange to the pulley,prise the flange towards the pump till you get a gap wide enough so the belt will pass through,fit the new belt over the fan blades first,then the crank pulley and generator,put a smidgen of copper slip on the bolt threads and bolt up the coupling,swearing and cussin is allowed doing this job.

I was hoping I could do that without having to remove all of the other items if I needed a greater gap. I'll give it a try! Thank you.

I did what you said... there is a decent gap, but the bolts seem to limit the gap. So, i cut the old belt as it's a wide one. I'm hoping the new belt will be a little narrower or more plyable. Do you know the exact belt size and type to order

I am assuming your old belt was the correct belt, just showing its age, from your description. Take the belt, you cut off, to a parts store and between using their catalogs and your belt they should be able to get you the proper belt. Sometimes careful inspection of the top surface of a belt will reveal a part number. Don't count on it being much different in size. If your pulleys are wide. the belt has to be wide enough to be just about flush with the top of the pulleys, as well as the belt cross section and angle has to match the pulleys.

Sorry the late reply different time zone (UK) the size of the belt given in the online parts list is 12.77 X 1208 MM and it will fit past the bolts,put it over the fan first as it can't be got over it if it's on the pulley,good luck.

sounds good. the radiator is out of the vehicle being cleaned and flushed. and I ordered a new water pump so the only thing in the way is the bolts.

You could just replace it with a Link Belt. Very easy to do and lasts as long as a regular belt.

You could just replace it with a Link Belt. Very easy to do and lasts as long as a regular belt.

I'm gonna give it a try with a normal belt - i'll hammer it through the small gap at the ends of bolts - if it won't go then for sure i'll sue the link belt. I loosened up the mounting nuts for the hydraulic shroud - hoping to gain an extra 1/8 inch gap, but it doesn't budge. i'm guessing the main bracket there is holding engine weight?

I don't know why you can't get the bolts back far enough unless someone but longer bolts in there,the bolts fit through a rubber bush in the adaptor,poke that bush towards the bolt head and you may be able to turn the bolt askew,other than that loosen the pipe work on the pump and pull it off, and take the adaptor out of the way,not much point in hammering the belt as you will only damage it and then it won't last,you guys should have a equipment mechanic do those jobs for you.

I agree with you. But do I need to jack up the engine in order to loosen the adapter? I loosened all of the bolts of the main bracket holding the adapter and it didn't budge at all. I can jack up engine, just wasn't sure how much more work I needed to do to get that extra 1/8 inch free. I am sure the bolt heads are hitting the adapter, and the adapter is pushed far enough and creating a clear gap in the center pulley.

I was able to get the new belt installed. I did need to jack up the engine to allow the hydraulic bracket to slide out a little. In the process, the oil pan got crushed a little and will need to be re-welded.
