Case 311 wiring problems at dash

Where does the speedo cable connect too on the tractor on a 311 Case? I haven"t taken any tin off yet - but I can"t seem to find where it goes. The parts manual I have shows where the tach cable connects to the housing...and I found this on the driver"s side of the machine with no problem - but nothing for the speedo.

2. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for these gauge clusters? I have seen a photo from Joe in KS, and mine appears to be the same. When I hook up the battery, the lights come on in the cluster. I have them connected to the wiring for the headlights. When I turn on the headlights, the gauge lights go off - just the opposite of what is supposed to happen. I disconnected the dash lights from the light wiring, and with the battery connected, the lights come on when you touch the negative terminal, not the positive. The tractor will run, and all else seems ok. I hooked things up based upon the labels on the cluster. I don"t want to "play" much further because once you burn something up with this stuff, it is too late to replace! Please help!

The speedometer cable comes out the front left corner of the cover for the 4 speed part of the transmission. If you look close you will see a little notch in the the cover. Go to Case/IH and they will have a wiring diagram in the parts manual.

Speedo cable goes into the left front corner of the main shift cover, and then connects to driver under the oil. Sounds like the cluster is not getting a ground. BUT nothing should have power with the switch off. When I work on any of my tractors I rewire so the light switch gets its power from the ignition switch. That way when the key is off no lights running the battery dead.

Bandman, this diagram for the 350/500b/800b should be like the 300b wiring.
