Case 400 Powering Steering

When did Case come out with power steering as an option for big 400s? I have a No. 577 parts catalog with a 5-55 date on the back that does not contain power steering information, and it doesn't put mechanical in front of the steering that it does show. The parts catalog on the CaseIH website is from at least 1957, and it does have the power option. While I'm add it, what are people's opinion of the power steering option for the 400 in terms of how well it works and whether it would be worth adding to a non-power steering 411 wide front. No front weights, although I'd like to add some. From my reading, the power version bolts right in, but I've never thought I needed power steering on DCs. Thanks in advance!

I have 2 400 tractors...one with ps the other without. Both wide fronts. The pump isn't original JI Case on the tractor but steers with one finger. Much easier than the one without.

I've two 400s also, a 55 w/o pwr and a 56 with. The power steering works very well, my system is totally original and I'm happy with it. I wouldn't hesitate to install it. Easiest to just pick up a parts tractor, that's what I'd do. Larry

There is a you tube out there where someone did a 400 with an electric unit out of a car. It seemed way simpler, unless you need to be factory.
