case 411 pto

Looking for an opinion. I am looking at a Case 411 tractor, I was informed that the PTO does not come on. My thinking is that this is probably the sign of major problems and I should stay away. Am I right in my thinking or could this problem not be a big deal to correct.

That sounds like major repairs. i.e. splitting the tractor.

Find a tractor that has working PTO and hydraulics.

well that is one Idea ,,. but you will never learn nuthin that way .. and by looking you mite end up with a dorf or long tractor ,,.does the pto work at all ? my 511 requires a bungie cord to keep the pto engaged,,, it is adjusted under the triple range cover... one of these days I will correct the trouble,,. and be wiser ,.. if you do passs let us know where this 411 is ,,..

I don't think so ,,, never done one on 411,, however I have done 300 , 430 , 530s , and I have done a 800, which is different ,,. the former requires shifting triple range to neutral , remove shift cover ,drain torque tube for better visibility for 1st timers,, LOL, the forward clutch pak will have a pull -push button,, by rotating the engaged pto serveral cliks you can titen the clutch ,,. plates ,, there is a lot of info here by sdearching archives,,..please don't be afraid to ask questions here , we don't bite and will admonish those that are too hard on you,,. for not knowing lol....remember. the dum question of all was the one one is afraid to ask

If this is a big 411 (1955-1957) I wouldn't worry about it. Unless the pto shafts is twisted off in the transmission the rest can be serviced from the back of the tractor (no split required). If the shaft is twisted off the hydraulics won't work either. Parts are still available for the clutch and it is fairly easy to rebuild. I suspect it's out of adjustment and that's not hard to do either.

be careful that guy didn't even take the time to learn the correct paint scheme ,,. but he is proud of it for sure ..
LOl ,..that is also a case-o -matic ,, someone needs to know the ropes on those trannys before going home with it or going to the field ,, good tractors ,,, but you must be taught the proper way to drive them .. and understand their quirks I think these models are adjusted by a 1 inch pipe plug above the pto remove plug locate button , and push pull triaL and error while spinning the pto ,,. same basic system on all case tractors of that era ,, but different location ,.. does the seller know anything ??about the tractor ? operating etc?/ history , where did it come from .??.

There is a lot of missinformation floating around in this thread.
The 411B has an independent PTO bolted to the diff. housing with 6 3/8" bolts. After draining gear lube, within 10min. you can have the complete PTO assy siting on your workbench for repairs.
I have never seen the shaft driving it twisted off.
There is a little shaft with an allenhead capscrew in it on the top of the PTO housing. This is connected to a sliding collar with a fork. Make sure it is slid to the forward position, before doing anything.

"When the PTO is not needed, it can be made inoperative by pushing the shift yoke forward as far as possible. Use a small pry bar to shift the yoke shaft." This is from the owners manual for the 411B. The shift yoke is located on top of the PTO housing kind of between the holes where the top link attaches. Most likely this has been disengaged sometime in the past.
