case 4230 shifting problem

Hi Guys need help please.
Working on a case 4230,I have a electric shift button for high and low range mounted on the top side of the gear shifter,when i pushed this button to go into high range it seemed to start to try to ingage and then went to nothing,the transmission still shifts but no gears will engage,there are to grinding noises or anything unusual except the transmission will not engage. can this button be stuck between high and low range or any ideas ??? Thanks
