Case 425 picker weight

I am going to look at a 425 corn picker tomorrow that can be bought for scrap price. It has sat outside in some trees for 50 years and has no mounting brackets so scrap is probably all that it is worth. If I don't get it, it will be scraped. Can anyone tell me what it weighs? I would guess around 3000 lbs. Any advice on loading a mounted corn picker? Thanks in advance, Ronald

You're close...operator manual says it weighs 3050#. If it is sitting on the stands you should be able to winch it on a trailer. That's how I
hauled one. Just curious, where did the mounts go? I might have extra drive parts but not the mounting bracket that goes under the tractor.

The guy said on the phone that the mounts had been lost over the years. He thought that they had parked it outside in the 60's and it had not been moved since then. I hope to go see it today and get more of an idea of what the situation is. I would think that it would of sank down in the ground a long ways after 50 years but we will see. Thank You for the 3050 lb weight. Ronald

Well, I bought it but had to give more for it than scrap price. The main front part looks OK for sitting outside for 50 years. The elevator part looks very rough. The story I got was that they bought a combine and just never used the picker again (the old running when parked story). The brackets and drive were sold years ago to someone else. I will have to see what kind of shape it is when it is out of the trees and weeds to see if it is a parts machine or a keeper. It is very muddy here right now so it might be a while until I can get to it. My goal if at all possible is to fix it and run it at our local "old time harvest day", trying to make or find some brackets. I will get some pictures of it posted on here when I get it out in the open. Thanks, Ronald

What are you thinking about mounting it on?
I think the mounts and drives are different
depending on what you mount it on.

dbolk, a big 400 would be the first choice to mount it on. I guess it will depend on what I can find or make work. I see that I have a LOT to learn about a mounted picker. Dad picked corn up until the very early 80's but the neighbors did it. I was young enough I just rode in the wagons sometimes and leveled out the load and helped unload also by kicking the corn out of the corners of the wagon.

The most common mounts are for the large frame tractors like the 400-830eh. But they made brackets to fit the 630 and DC as well, and maybe for other brands too, but I've never seen that.

I just might have any pair of mounting brackets for the 400/700/800 tractors. I know I have the mounting brackets for a DC tractor. I have to look to see what I have.

Greg, yes this is located in Falls City. Bought new by Eldon V's dad I believe is the story. He said that you would know about it as he mentioned your name several times. If you have mounting brackets and a drive for a 400 or something in that size range I would be VERY interested in visiting with you. I met you once at a mainly CASE farm sale near Falls City 6 or 7 years ago where you bought a plow and maybe a wagon? and some other stuff. Thank You, Ronald

I thought so, I bought those mounting brackets from Eldon over twenty years ago when he had the salvage yard their in Falls City. My # (402)883-0599 and yes the sale you refer to was in Salem Ne.

If you want to get rid of those dc brakets and he doesn't want them, I might take them. Do they have the drive components too? I believe the dc's drove off the side pulley.
