Case 430 fuel lines

I have put together a basket case 430 diesel and I think it is starving for fuel.
I was wondering what the original fuel line size would have been on a 61 188d engine?

I can't answer your exact question, but have seen engines that "make" several hundred horsepower with only 5/16" or 3/8" fuel lines in the primary fuel circuit in the injection pump area, IMHO, it shouldn't take "big" lines to make the around 40 HP your engine is rated at.

Have you checked for any restrictions to the free flow of fuel from the tank?

That engine does not need large lines as fuel use is much lower at full load than larger tractors. If problem is engine runs/looses power/dies, then restarts awhile later
and repeats injection pump MAY need repair. You can confirm by loosening the two screw timing cover when it acts up again, if engine runs/accelerates WITH the fuel leak,
but slows/dies with cover tight the return line side needs cleaned of the broken ring failing inside the pump, and pump needs repair. DO NOT keep cleaning the line and
using the pump, or retainer pins WILL shear off inside, lock the hydraulic head and break the drive shaft.
Also check the fuel tank vent, if plugged no air in means no fuel out..

Never experienced it but customers used to tell me their 430 diesels would run on 3 quarts of fuel per hour. I am agreeing with the others, unless the small lines are kinked clear shut they will flow all you need, take Dieseltech's advice first, so easy to check

I had same issue, napa new replacement fuel filter didn't flow, reused old case filter all good now.

So he said he put together a "basketcase" To me that means everything is an unknown until checked.

What injection pump does it have? (Model number)

Was the injection pump found buried under a manure pile, or has it been rebuilt?

Etc......
