That is a Case J series plow. You could get the JRA (shear bolt beams) or JTA (spring trip beams) They came in 4+ bottoms and fit Category II hitches.

I always called them an anchor since they act like one if it is wet and you try plowing they hold you right down till you take them off and pull them out separate from the tractor then get a loader to set them up to put back on. Connor has it right about the semi mount though. I like a trailer plow best. They corner better in the field at the sides and can be unhooked if stuck then rehitched easy after out.

If you plan on using that plow keep in mind that it has turning stops cast into the mast and it will turn tighter to the left (if I remember correctly) than to the right. Do not try to turn tighter than the
stops allow or you can potentially damage your plow. Check your tail wheel bearing before use and repack it if necessary.

Thanks everyone (I could not figure out how to multi-quote); especially thanks for the pictures.

Can you tell from the pictures, is my example a Shear-pin or Spring-trip model ?

Is it most likely to be 14" or 16" plows; can it be told from the pictures ?

yours is the JR shear bolt model.

It could be either size. Best to measure distance between beams of look on the back of the moldboard should have EX14 or EX16 stamped in it which will tell you.

Thanks for all the information.

Connor,Do you have more sales information on the J series plows. My dad bought a 730ck diesel in 1966 with a 4 bottom 16 inch plow. The bill of sale lists our plow as a JT shear bolt model and not a Jr as your information shows.

I can dig it up. I would guess the salesman didn't really care about the specific model of J when he filled out the paperwork and just put it in as a JT. (shock)

According to the text accompanying this picture, a 6-bottom is Model JRA/JTA66; a 7-bottom is JRA/JTA76.

What is the model designation for 4- and 5-bottom plows; JRA/JTA44 and JRA/JTA55; or would it be JRA/JTA46 and -56; or am I even close in my thinking ?
