Can someone explain to me the " half sleeves" or whatever they were called.... was watching an AI documentary on this engine, and they mentioned the sleeves being partially bonded to the block, as opposed to conventional sleeves. The " narrator " mentioned this 2 or 3 times but I couldn't figure how they worked. Thanks, Fritz.

never heard of it, they are a traditional wet sleeve like most any other diesel out there, case used the same basic sleeve and block design from the 400 through the 3594, granted some dimensions changed but the are the same general shape.

I think the AI "hallucinated", which is the official term for when it dreams up something with no factual basis.

Agreed @wore out the only strange wet sleeved engine I have ever been around was an Iveco in a Fiat Allis FD14E, the main sleeve support was down at the bottom of the block and they used a weird spacer plate between the top of the main block and the head, a very unique and complicated design that was prone to issues. case did at one time have a repair for the lower sleeve bore, for cavitation repairs, but once that was installed you went back to a factory normal old wet sleeve

As did the Cat 3306 in some versions.
I will be darned, only every touched like 3 3306 but never that deep, them Iveco were a serious PITA for sure, might last 20 minutes might last 20K hours after an overhaul, just a crap shoot, even done by the best and most thorough tech, you just never knew

The only problem Case had with the 504 was in early 70's some engines failed, about 1700-2000 hours and had to be line bored to correct them, I think it had something to do with cure time of the block.

i am major overhauling a case 504 out a 3594 on the big engine stand right now i am guessing some one messed up the over head and ran it to long and ruined the cam destroyed two heads not re buildable we got a core engine from the salvage yard and scored good heads that can be rebiult a good cam and followers and good push rods when i get the sleaves out i will let everyone know about the electrolisis

Your post leaves out a LOT of details, it would be interesting if you would fill in the details!
