Case 5130 Hydraulics

What would cause my hydraulics to get hard when the tractor had been in use for an hour or 2? All 3 of the hydraulics I use for either my front end loader or my baler and after a while they all get hard to push and pull. First thing they are fine and smooth and easy.

Thanks.

The usual cause of spool binding is a cracked section internally, but that usually affects only one valve, yours is definitely a heat related issue, often the cause is over torquing of the valve stack bolts. If I were you I would probably loosen the stack bolts and retorque them to specification, a lot of stack valves will use a thin shim on the bolts to cause a bit of separation between the sections to stop pressure from one section to affect another, a look at the parts page shows this not to be true of the 5130 valve, it only hows one shim clear at the bottom. These shims are only a few thousandths thick and do not affect the o ring seal, Most backhoes and loaders are equipped with the shims in both hoe and loader valves. If nothing else works, I myself would get a sheet of shim stock maybe .005 and make shim washers for each bolt between each section. Others may disagree with me but I'm used to that. If you do this get all new o rings from CNH, no substitutes from NAPA as o rigs are special Durometer ratings depending on application. After doing this stuff for 52 years as a professional mechanic, I'm not afraid to go outside the box for cures. Another thing, if you do this make sure that there are no burrs or dirt under any sealing surface, if there are imperfections that would stop the valves from seating perfectly they can be dressed off carefully with ta fine file, a thorough cleaning of all the area around all the valve is imperative, Factory recommended torques and imperative as over torquing can cause this problem and many stack bolts are not torqued to the bolt size spec.

There are others on here with as good a mind as myself who has had a similar experience and there input would be helpful.
