Case 530 Flywheel Cover?

Hello,

I am in the process of getting my Case 530 (541 Ag gasser) put back together post a cluth split and overhaul. It has been a long time.

There is an open area where you can see the flywheel. It seems like there would be a cover for that, but I cannot seem to find it in my shop nor do I remember if it had one given how long it has been.

1) Would there have been a cover piece to hide the flywheel? As you can see in the attached picture (not my tractor, just an example I found on Google), the area is open but has threaded holes.

2) Would it be a problem to leave that open? I would imagine that just invites problems of rust and debris.

Thanks,

I advise "Find the cover!". If you cannot find it, try a bone yard. If you, or a friend, are a bit handy at metal work, it would not be too difficult to fab up a new one. Rodents, debris, dirt will find that opening. Plus, you have done a nice job restoring the tractor, so why leave an eyesore opening. Odds are, leaving it open would never cause a major problem, but why not finish the job properly? Just my opinion.
