what fluid do I use in the trans and rear end? any filters for these two?
got a manual finally and it says to use auto trans type 8 in the torque tube, is this correct?

(quoted from post at 19:55:15 03/23/16) and which hydro filter would I need??

part# g13113 or part# a39578?

Part number G13113 is a paper filter that would have been original to the tractor. See item 33 in the parts diagram below. Most of the tractors I have see have been converted to the metal covered filter (see item 45). When that conversion happened item 46, the filter cap needed to replace item 34.

If in your shoes I would see what filters you have in the tractor now. If you have paper, replace with paper (G13113). If you have the metal filter, replace with the metal filter (A39578). That way you don't need to concern yourself with replacing the cap. Case still sells both filters. Either one will cost about $20.

Keep in mind you have two filters on your Case-o-matic tractor. The hydraulic filter under the fuel tank accessed from the right side. The COM filter is the same part number, and is mounted in the nose section in front of the radiator, behind the grill screen on the left side.

IMHO the torque tube should be serviced with a high quality hydraulic fluid, like HyTran. That reservoir is drawn on for the COM torque converter, and for the eagle hitch / remote hydraulics. It needs a quality oil.

The manufacture's suggested oil in the rear end is gear lube. I use 80w90. Other's here use hydraulic fluid in the rear end. I stick with the manufacture's recommendation for two reasons. First, the people that engineered the tractor made the recommendation....and I'm not a engineer, and I haven't stayed at a Holiday Inn Express recently. Secondly, it is hard enough to keep these old tractors from "leaking" without putting a very light weight oil in a reservoir that is has numerous places for a leak to start.... YMMV
