More questions on the Case 550 dozers, I'm looking at a straight 550, it has the track controls in the front of the seat. The 550 E and G models have the controls left of the seat. Do all three have the same transmissions, just different controls, or did the transmissions have major changes too? I'm still not sure what the E and G means, maybe build year group? Did any have the 4BT engine, or are all were all built non turbo? Thanks!

I’m not going to be much help but will share the little I know. Farm next door to ours has an old 1150. Maybe 60’s ? It has the center pedestal that is between your legs while operating. Steering, forward, reverse, etc is controlled there. I also think gear selection is there also. With that setup you can run one track forward and one in reverse at the same time. Machine will spin in place 360 degrees. I don’t believe the ones with side controls can do that. As far as transmissions being the same I don’t know. The letters E and G I believe are just designate different series. 550 oldest, 550 E newer, 550 G newer than the 550 E ect. That’s all I know about them. Ran lots of Cat dozers in the last 27 years. Only spent about 1 hour on a Case.
