i found a case 555 9 foot haybine in really nice shape and wonder what years these were built it? are they a decent machine and what is a decent price for one.?

You might want to post this in the Case section. I think a 555 is a Hesston PT10. Back in their time they were a decent machine. There were a some in my area but we never had good dealer support. I am not sure how available parts would be. Tom

I was thinking they were a PT 10 too. When the PT 10 first came out, I remember there being an update that had to be installed to keep them from tearing up belts, but if there's one that still exists, I'd guess it was updated a LONG time ago. At this point, they're older than time itself, but there was a lot of hay cut with them way back when.

Great machine in their day 45 years ago. Yes its a pt 10 with red paint. We flat wore out the one we had.
Usually dont bring more than scrap price here, I picked up a hydra swing version last year for $200, excellent condition, figured I could use it as a backup if I had to.
Shoup has sections, guards, bearings are common.

They were a good machine. The sickle drive on the Case I had was the older style used on the Hesston PT 10. (Newer PT 10's used a universal joint instead of a ball joint) Be sure to look for wear on those drive parts. If the one you are looking at has the ball joint type driver, they can be tightened to account for some wear.

Sold ours back in either 1982 or 83 after the dairy herd left in Non of 1090. Pulled it with a 1941 Farmall H with no problems. very satified with it. If still farming the model I would like. Tried a couple of different ones before got ours. Actually while waiting for dealer to do minor repairs and had to send back as way were built tractor could not lift them to even try them.
