Case 580 ck running issues.

580ck

Ok first post, I have owned my 580ck for about a month. Started up and ran great. I decided it was a good idea to get it stuck about 2 days after owning it for not being patient and waiting till summer or winter to drive it near my pond. Long story, got it stuck axel deep for about 3 weeks, finally up and on level high ground. Now she starts and runs for maybe 1 minute and shuts off. I have tried idling up and such but it just shuts off. I am thinking fuel issue, could there be a cutoff value my kids turned or got turned? Could it be a fuel pump and if so how do i test it? what else could make this beauty go to sleep to early? Thank you in advance.

My first question would be is are you talking about a diesel or gas tractor? Do you know what series of 580CK it is? Case built 580CKs as far back as 1966 or '65. I have a '67 580CK TLB diesel (188 engine). More info please.

There should be a shut off valve, at the tank, for the fuel line going to the filters. It should be fully turned on.

The injection pump fuel shut off for stopping the engine is a push pull cable, make sure it did not slip and is fully moving the lever to on, at the pump, when you push it in.

Look the fuel lines over, both supply and return. Did you bend, loosen, or otherwise damage a fuel line when you got stuck?

If these visual checks look ok I would try changing the fuel filters and bleeding it. You may have disturbed a bunch of crap in the tank trying to get it unstuck if you did a lot of rocking. Sounds like you just got it so maybe it needs filters anyway and this was the trigger to make it act up. Lugging fuel in cans often leads to dirt and water in the tank if care is not used in fuel handling.

The first obvious thing would be checking the amount of fuel flowing to the pump, are the filters causing a restriction, if so a filter change may solve your problem, Another possibility would be that drive ring failure in the injection pump is causing a pressure buildup in the pump by plugging the restrictor fitting at the top cover of the pump. Remove the line that comes down from the injectors, remove the fitting from the pump, see if it will run with that fitting out. The elbow fitting can be removed from the restrictor and be screwed directly into the pump to try it. If this is the problem you should have the drive ring replaced soon as damage can occour if you wait to long.

You guys have given me a good couple of options to get started, thanks in advance. Ok, gonna start looking at these options tonight, is there a schematic or layout of the fuel delivery system somewhere that i can take a look at so I don't miss a filter or cutoff value or anything?

I found this filter list online somewhere and want to confirm these are correct before I buy them, because I don t know the history I wanted to replace all the filters and engine oil to start fresh
With regards to the oil is 15w40 hd diesel the right stuff for me again I have a 1970 diesel 580ck.

any idea why the tube that screws in the fuel tank is so long on the 580ck 188d, there is plenty of fuel in the tank but the secondary filter is dry? New injector ,pump both fuel filters, replaced fuel lines, cleaned the tank, and still the second fuel filter remains dry at the top bleeding screw and stalls. any ideas?
