I just purchased a 580ck forklift and I
want to change the fluid in the
transmission. Where do I check it at? It
seems like it should be a separate system
from the mast and tilt.

I managed to change the fluid and both filters. The issue I'm having is when the forward/reverse is in neutral, my clutch pressure is normal. As soon as you move the reverse in either direction pressure drops and it starts to whine. Not sure what's causing it. Any suggestions?

This shows the loader tractor but the forkift is the same there is a transmission check/fill plug # 16 and Torque tube check/fill plug #17 the torque tube takes trans/hyd fluid TCH was the original oil recommended cih Hy-Tran is the replacement fluid today,, you can use and Good quality trans/hyd oil of your choice also, the #16 plug takes 80-90wt gear oil

Did it work before you changed oil or was you trying to fix a issue with a oil change? If it worked before you may not have enough oil in it, it is checked with trans in 4th gear at idle brakes set,, remove dip stick/wipe off and install then remove and check oil level, they rear high on oil if you check it with engine off,, if it did not work before you changed oil sounds like you have a shuttle issue,, can be a few things but I will add most all of this type problem requires a split to remove the shuttle and rebuild

I bought it non running at an auction. Got it running after a battery and carb clean. Hydraulic pump was whining and the lines were chattering when in forward or reverse as well as the clutch pressure dropping. After fluid and filter change, the filters were practically plugged. Issues persisted though, So we took the shuttle valve body apart and noticed the pressure relief valve had scoring on the valve body side. Possibly causing the pressure relief to stick open. Going to test our theory in moment by replacing the springs with a piece of steel. Thereby eliminating the chance to stick open.

If you are holding correct pressure until you shift it in REV or FWD you have a leak in the shuttle,, either from worn out clutch and backing plates or bad seals,, would be my first guess, if you had no pressure in "N" as well I would say its in the valve or the flow divider control valve which is next to the control valve in your pics, I would make sure the spool in the flow divider while you are there

I agree and think you are correct. I have ordered a service manual. I would like to fix this if It can be done at a reasonable cost. I assume I need to split the tractor, and take a look at the clutches and seals. Where would I be able to find those? Or am I wasting my time? I can find a used machine not too far away for 4500$ and I have 1600 into this one.

Any Case CE not a cih dealer should be able to still supply all you will need I am not sure any aftermarket parts are available,, here rough terrain Case forklifts bring 8-14K still,, so even 4500 would be a buy for one to us with some issues, if you were near me and I am sure you are not as I am in Wyoming I would sure consider taking yours off your hands to fix and use, last shuttle I did I think I had 500-600 in parts but that was maybe 8 years ago, parts have went nuts these days,, there are two brands shuttle packs they can have, so that will have to be sorted before ordering parts,, and they need to be apart to be sure,, well worth fixing to me but your call,

I agree. I like the machine alot. Perfect size for what I would need it for. I have ordered the service manual and a new case CE dealer just went in about 10 miles from my work. I'm gonna wait till next week and tear into it I think. I appreciate all your help casenutty1660. Your willingness to share the vast knowledge between your ears makes sites like this one a lifesaver.

Andrew, if you defeat the relief from being able to open you will be putting the pump in a situation where the oil cannot move if you deadhead the oil against a closed spool, I am not sure if that shuttle pump has a cold oil relief built in, if it does not you stand a great chance of destroying the pump, either twisting the shaft off or splitting the body, please reconsider your testing method. Even if it does have a cold oil relief it will be forced to open well above normal system pressure. A gear type pump is a positive displacement type and must deliver oil somewhere, if it is shot it will bypass internally and probably not destroy its self but is not usable anyway, List price on a new pump is over $1400 so be careful, a safer way would be to use the spring but add a little bit of shimming behind the spring and see if that makes a difference but if you have normal pressure in neutral and it drops in forward and reverse that points to internal shuttle clutch piston leakage or shaft sealing rings.
