Case 600 Case-O-Matic

Hi Case Owners,
I found a Case 600 Case-O-Matic and it looks like a nice tractor. It ran last fall. The person wants to sell it $1600. This seems like a reasonable price. Though I do have questions that may be you can help me with. I can not find any information on this tractor. The person sent me pictures and it is gas operated. Don"t know the year as the owner doesn"t know. Can anyone help me out as to what year they were made, problems to look for, pulling power, would there be a dual chain drive, and anything else you may add. Thank you.

Bob

Its not a 600 COM its a 600b , the dry clutch model was the 500b. Most of these were general purpose 611b or 511b models. It was made in 1957/59 I believe. Replaced by the 30 series in 1960. Most of these tractors were gas (159 cid), in fact I don't know if diesel was an option, I would need to check in my Case service manual for the 350,500b/600b tractors.

I think its somewhere around 40hp and pulls like any COM IF the COM is in good shape. Should be a dual range I believe. Tractor Data may have correct horsepower for this tractor.

$1600 is a good price if the tires are good, it runs, the hydraulics work (and 3 pt) and there is no water in the crankcase or oil in the radiator. Any of the above negatives would start to reduce offer price. Offer less anyway and see what the seller settles for if you want to negotiate. Its worth about $175-$200 per ton as scrap iron and weighs about 4500 lbs. Of course its worth much more in parts.

Shares a lot of parts with the early 630s.

Hey Bob, the 600b has a g164 engine (dry sleeve), and they were only used in the 600b, 500b and 350. Some parts do cross over, but a lot don't and can be very hard to find. No they never came in diesel, but a few were propane. Not a lot of 500bs 600bs were made and very few 350s. I think they were made in 58 and 59. My 510b is a 58. I think they were rated about 47hp, which seems a little high. The tractor is a good size for an acreage and When I had my front end loader on it, it could pick up and move good sized round bales with not to much difficulty. I hope this helps.

Hi Trevor,

Thanks! These replies have been great! I can't thank you enough. Now may be I will stop by and see for myself, and talk with the owner. I sure would like to have a strong puller in my MATC club.

Bob, I was thinking about it later, the 530 had a 159 cid engine, the 500b/600b had a 148 cid engine, sorry wasn't thinking straight this morning.

Hi All,

I just want to thank you all for the valuable information. If this tractor ran in 2009 there has to be something wrong with it. The pictures look as if it is in fair to good condition, tires look good, tin is straight. I am thinking of asking $1200 as I know I am going to have to recondition it. Plan on going to see it soon. Will let yopu know what happens. Thanks again.

Jim, as far as I know the 500b/600b had a g164 dry sleeve engine. I think that was the only dry sleeve engine that case ever made. Later case made 164s with wet sleeves but that was a replacement engine for the 500s and 600s. The 400b and 300b used the 148.
