Case 600 Worth Saving?

Went to go look a bunch of parts tractors Yesterday.

Among the hulks of partial tractors, there was a Case 600, missing a rear tire and the injection pump.

I know they didn't make a whole lot of these so that's why I'm asking, should I try to save it from the scapper? Would these have the same engine as any other Case? Dad was the tractor expert.

They guy's got 6 chain drive 930 wheatlands, 3 are "runners" and 3 are parts. I'm thinking about either getting all the 930's in a package deal if they are priced right. Or all the parts machines and one "runner", that hand clutch was just too much fun.

So what's y'alls thoughts on this 600? Any chance at life? Or is it parts?

There were only about 1800 600's made during a short run in 1957. 600's were a basic upgrade of a 500 having 6 speeds instead of 4, pressurized cooling system and a few other small changes (34" rear tires as opposed to 30") It was bit more useful than a 500 IMHO.

There is no reason in this day and age that it can't be brought back to life. All it takes is time and money. I would try to determine why it is at the salvage yard to begin with. Is there a hole through the block, or a broken crank or some other major problem. Or, did it just become obsolete and the owner needed space. The can over the exhaust is a good sign someone thought the engine was worth an attempt to keep the rain out. If you ask me, the best sound in the world is a motor coming back to life after sitting in the scrap yard, never to be run again. I hope you decide to save it. Don

I didn't see any holes in the block, clearly missing a tire and injection pump though.

The cost of repairing the inj. pump , especially at a dealer is prolly why it was scrapped. Is that a common pump ? It looks restorable in the pix ...

I should clarify, it's not at the scrap yard yet. Old guy died and the family is cleaning up the farm, this is just one of 6 other cases and another half a dozen IH tractors.

There is a fair bit of emotional attachment to the tractors on the part of the widow, so they may stick firm at a fairly high price. So this all my be for nothing.

The missing injection pump is what worries me, I've got access to machine tools and could fix about anything else. My ignorance is showing, but would the pump off a 930 or 900B work?

The 930 injection pump can be made to fit. It would really bring it to life. The entire 6 speed 930 engine would bolt right in.

Alask, Ive got a 500 ind I use for pulling in my club.Needed more power so took the rotory pump off and now sits under the bench.Worked good.I put one on from a big case loader with a 500 something cu in 6 banger.Big power dif. direct bolt in.Had to take the inj lines with it as they are diferant.Then ireadjusted the rack for more fuel.Dont she blow some black under a load.Find an old loader in a yard or dealership somewhere and ask about it.Ive got the old rotfory pump.You can have itfor shipping costs.Ill never go back to one.Those old inline Bosch pumps are as tough as an anvile! Ok thanks guy. As far as where they are, ill keep that under my hat until the deal pans out.

Ive offered $1000 for the best running 930 with the best tires, 800 for the other 930 runner with bad tires, $500 for a whole parts 930 on steel, and 300 ea for the 600 and two parts 930s.

We'll see what they say. Its way more than I should be spending consdiering how much the new shop is going to be. But id like to save that 600 and those 930s with hand clutches were fun.
