In the Model No. 630-L, what does the L mean?
On a Case 630 tractor is the SN stamped on the tractor someplace besides on the plate?

The L designation is for a lower ratioed high gear. There is also an H designation which means a higher ratioed high gear.

The only serial numbers on the 630, that I know of, are the tractor model number and serial number on the right side panel and the motor serial number on the lower right side of the block.

Someone smarter than me will hopefully respond, as I'm just speculating here. But the 'L' might mean 'low speed'. I know my 630 is a 630-H, which means it has the high-speed 4th gear, and I'm pretty sure they also offered a low speed fourth gear (though that's going from memory of what I read on here years ago).

How fast is it in high range road gear? My 530 standard (which presumable has the same gearing as a 630 standard) moves at a pretty average speed going down the road; I'm guessing 18-ish MPR. The 630-H really boogies in comparison - almost too fast to do anything safely. But this is assuming a standard 4 speed tranny (plus range shifter). There were a pile of different transmission options in the 530. I suspect with the 630 being Case-O-Matic there weren't quite as many options, but that's just a guess.
