case 700 puller

Hi everyone I am helping a friend build a 700 case puller. I was wondering if the 336 engine sleeves that are 4.625 inch will fit in a 730 case gas motor it is a 251ci. wondering what else we could do to make some more power. thanks

They better because I am putting 5.125 sleeves into one. Some use MM pistons with the 336 sleeves , you could stroke it some and use 400IH small pin rods. 830lp heads are better flowing, 870 gas heads are the best but you don't need them for a smaller build, if you are using diesel head gaskets you may have to weld the two water passages shut on the manifold side, use the head gasket to confirm this, I am having the 4 passages closed off to use a 336/504 gasket with my 870 gas heads.

The 700 block head bolt hole spacing is closer to the sleeve area than a 830 or 870 block. But there is still alot of room, should be able to do it, but I would find an old sleeve to be sure. You won't be able to use the 830 heads because of the bolt spacing, the 400 and 700 heads are prone to cracking or at least with the ones I have come across.

it is a 730 motor we are using is that the same as the 700 block or the 830 block. thanks

Not sure on that one, they do have different part numbers. I posted a pic of the bolt spacing on an 830 block. It measures 5.123 approximately from inside these bolt holes.

730-830 (and 930-1030) have the same bolt pattern which is differen't from the hundred series, be careful who you take advice from, there are some you will talk to that think they do but really don't know jack $#!+ about a case.

If you want to know about case post in the case forum. meL and Gary Baker are two of the best to talk to. Yes the 336 sleeves will fit the 730 block but it requires machining the block for the larger sleeve diameter for that to happen. Gary can get you Aries pistons for a decent price.

A perfect reason why a person should not post on here. No one listens anyway. There is a lot more involved than just ordering some pistons from Aries or Ross and putting them in. Most aftermarket pistons have a short compression height and will require longer rods or a stroked crank.

Brutus, if you had bothered to read my post you would have noticed, I said Gary Baker can get him the pistons from ARIES! Gary would of course ask the appropriate questions, as he does every time I call him and ask about something.

Nowhere did i say he should try to do this himself!

If you are going to slam something I say, please have the curtesy to read my post completely before making a reply.

I agreed with your post prior to mine on the subject, and pointed him towards two individuals that could best answer his question. With a source for the pistons he will need to do it.

thanks for the help everyone. I was not trying to start a conflict. The reason I posted on this form is because I am building a pulling tractor and this is a pulling form.

No worries on my part super 6. My suggestion still stands carry this up to the Case forum and look for mEl he is there almost everyday.

It will be hard trying to get particular answers to your questions on almost any forum due to perceived notions that the answer may need to be a secret, in case you end up pulling against that person. Plus they found out the hard way so you should too. LOL

Garys # 734 six seven eight nine six 88 building case engines for pullers is what he does for a living.

mEl is a great guy as well and will help point you in the right drection. He builds Case pullers as a hobby and frequents the Case forum.

Well building a puller isn't cheap, no matter how you skin it.

In light of the mess this turned into. The original question was on installing 336 sleeves, and yes they will go in, you can use the 336/504 head gasket but read my previous post about water passages as the dsl. gasket does not cover the entire gas head, as for pistons custom pistons will cost quite a bit and you need to calculate the compression height to get the ratio you desire depending on how good of gas you want to buy (even 91 octane is crap) Both Mel and Gary are friends of mine and are willing to help a person out. I have been pulling 30 years and have found the people who won't tell you anything either doesn't know because he wrote a check for his engine or doesn't have much to begin with. I am working on a 619 inch case and would be glad to help if I can.

thanks guys for the help. I know custom pistons are not cheap.The Canadian dollar sucks right now witch doesn't help. I am also building a farmall 560 puller
