I have a 61? 830 with the com single stick transmission and Im having a hard time getting it in reverse. The first time I drove the tractor it went in reverse good but ever since then I cant get it to go in at all. Where do I start? I just got the tractor and we are not starting on a very good note lol. I appreciate any help!

How low can you get it to idle? Usually has to be pretty slow engine rpms or the clutches keep transmission gears turning. One of our COM tractors had a ton of hours on, clutch pressure was ok but not great, so we got to slamming in gear the last few years of use. But she kept on going, just guessing 15,000hours or more on that COM when we quit using it. But never opened the tranny.

Hello Honda welcome to YT! Is it just grinding as Nedd suggest? Or is the lever just not moving to the right position? Have you checked to see if there may be some water in the bottom of the transmission? Just crack the drain plug after it sets overnight and see if water drips out. Just thinking that maybe when you drove it it stirred up the water and more condensations formed rust on the shifters. Usually takes a good long time for the shifters to get rusty though.

It wont grind or anything. Ive pulled pretty hard to get it to go in and it just wont. Fluid is fresh a few weeks ago and it really wasnt to bad coming out. I put case hytran in it

Had a neighbor bought one very well used.Same issue, got by shifting into 1st then reverse for a short time.Send it to a dealer, turned out to be very worn out shift rail. After the fix he was very happy until he traded it onto a 1070.Hopefully someone can step you through ckecking it out.

Nedd hit the nail on the head. But, can you place shifter in reverse start engine with clutch depressed ? bent forks? You will need to shift into neutral and remove top cover. inspect for wear the shifter forks , they are available from many salvage yards

I also have an 830 diesel com. Does the same thing. I believe the problem is worn shift rails or forks. I finesse the shifter slightly to one side or the other when changing gears and it will go in.
