My son (12 years old) and I installed the spin on oil filter adapter adapter onto our 1960 Case 830 Dual Range yesterday. Picked this up from Elmer's Repair. When we changed the oil last summer, the retainer bolt for the housing was missing several pieces of hardware, including the spring. As a result, nothing fit right and the filter housing leaked terribly. We were able to make some extra gaskets and shims and get it to stop leaking temporarily, but I was concerned about the long term effectiveness of this system.
Over the winter, I discovered the scarcity of replacement parts from Case, so I decided to go the route of the spin on adapter. The threads on the forum indicated that the spin on adapters did not always fit easily. I called Elmer's and they told me that their adapter was specifically designed to fit the 730/830 series without modification.
We have no leaks and good oil pressure after installation.
Happy spring, all!
