hi I hope someone can help me here. I was plowing snow with my tractor today and all of a sudden the shifter had no movement like something let go. I pushed it down and around and got it to go in rev. I got it as close to the house as possible. being 5 degress out with a wind chill of -30 I had to work fast. I took the seat and top plate off and noticed the snap ring broke that holds the shifter in. I tried moving it around to try to get it in any forward gear. it is stuck in rev. I can take the whole shifter out. it fits between to side pins. I took the shifter in the garage and weather covered the whole opening figuring I have a repair manual I could look at. the manual shows a few differant ones but found mine. the range selector on mine is on the left side of the instrument panel. I know I need a new snap ring. but the only thing I can see from reading on assembling and disasembling is it says to make sure it's in neutral. maybe I need to do that so it will be in the right position. anyone know anything about this I would appreciate your help. more snow coming tuesday :( thanks.

You need to block the tractor so it don't have a pull on the gears. Then you need to align the shifting fork slots so it is in neutral then install your shifter and new snap ring.

Since you were able to back it up to your house, is a good thing. That means the forward gears are in neutral. You will need to get down in the shifter hole with a thin bar or long screw driver and bring the reverse rail back to neutral, (It will need to be pulled rearward until all 3 gates line up),and then reinstall the shifter and snapring.

PS---This is presuming that the only problem was a bad snapring.

thanks for all your help. sorry I haven't got back to your replies but it so happens my pc went on the blink also and for some reason I couldn't get to reply on my wifes pc. anyway I took the shifter housing off and cleaned it all up. also the two forks for forward gears were lines up and the reverse was forward so I lined them all up. I had to wait to get a snap ring I should have an update tomorrow night after work. I'm thinking to put it all together in the housing and slip the housing straight down and over the 2 studs and fingers crossed it slides right in place. will let you know what happens.
