Case 930 hard starting

My Case 930 used to bust off in a rev or two, then about a year ago a
neighbors dope head grown son went in the shed and got the tractor
without permission. He used the tractor to pull his truck out of another
persons field where he got stuck while stealing parts off of one of that
mans trucks. He wrapped a chain in such a way that he jerked the lower
radiator hose off and wound up running the tractor hot, how hot I dont
really know but the gauge was not pegged out and stuck so I hoped
maybe not that bad or not too long. Since that all took place the tractor
has been extremely hard starting and black smokes when it finally does
start, I have run it long enough to make sure no water getting in the oil
and not overheating while running, otherwise thinking he might have
done something else to the tractor at the same time. Appreciate any
suggestions on what to check.

This is a tough 1. But, do you really know how hot it got? Air restriction will cause black smoke, but shouldn't cause hard starting unless something catastrophic happened to the air intake. Check that out,; after that do a compression check.
