Case 930 power steering

Need some help and couldn?t think of a better group to ask! I have a
1967 Case 930 CK 401 diesel with the standard garbage belt driven
power steering. I have been seeing a bunch of talk about installing a
priority valve to eliminate the belt driven pump, but not much talk
about how to do it, I.e what do I need to buy, where do I plumb it, etc.
I also have a loader on this beast, so I know that doesn?t help the
steering but if plumbing into the hydraulic system is going to help I?m
willing to give it a go. Thanks in advance.

Has the p/s filter been changed?

Yes have changed filter and checked for any binding of the steering using the loader to lift the front it steers fine, but when on the ground it?s junk and squeals like crazy. Have heard this is an issue for this series tractor and was looking to make a change to run off the hydraulic system.

Squeals as in hydraulic pressure squeal as in pump internal problem or as in belt or pulleys are worn out or damaged or mis aligned or ?

Try the next size wider belt on the power steering pump...will be too wide but will compensate for the worn pulleys. Have had a loader on my 1030 since 1980 and load a lot of round bales. Not perfect but works pretty good.

I have a loader on my 930 too. I replaced the belt, fluid and filter, made a world of difference. Keep the belt adjusted once they start slipping they wear faster.

you can install a 70 series dual stage hydraulic pump in place of the 30 series single stage pump on the back of the pto & then use the 2nd stage to run the steering. I also mounted a 70 series filter & then a pressure relief valve in the pressure line to the steering. So run your pressure line from pump to relief valve then through filter then up to the steering gear, then run the return line back & dump into the transmission.

It?s belt squeal, brand new belt, tight, changed filter and flushed system it just seems like the pump on these is not enough to have a loader on. Like I said I have read about guys installing a priority valve or power beyond and all their issues are resolved with the steering and squealing.

If a new belt squeals then the pulleys are shot. Like I said above, try the next size wider belt on the worn pulleys. Have a loader on a 1030 for many years and although not perfect it is acceptable and always works fine if the tractor is moving.

I have been using a 930 for 25 years and never knew the p/s had a filter. Also, my relief valve is opening sooner than it used to do especially when I turn to the right. Any ideas? Where is the relief valve located? Can it be cleaned or repaired or is it a replaceable item?

Is the tractor moving or stopped when the power steering belt squeals? Even when brand new those power assist pump belts would squeal when the steering wheel was turned while the tractor not moving.

Just like any non-power steering tractor, try to only turn the steering wheel when the tractor is actually moving. I know that is not always possible to do that.
