Case 970 powershift slipping

I have a white 970 powershift. It is slipping in first and second. Third and reverse are ok. I have checked pressure at shift valve. Using four gauges the pressure was approx 200 psi at the correct valves with no leaking in other valves. The lube pressure is 90 psi in c-1 c-3 & c-4. C-2 has 50 psi. It has 2100 psi at remote outlets.. Just wondering what is needed to correct shifting. Thanks

Your pressure readings are a good start as far as they go, you really need a flow test done on the power shift, on the 70 series the whole power shift can be diagnosed from the remote couplers. It would do you well to try to access one with a experienced Tech who knows how it is done. Depending on how big a power shift leak is, it can show good pressure but flowing a lot of GPM to sump. At first glance You would suspect a C1 problem with your symptoms but the 50 LB lube pressure adds a different dimension to it, I hope Rod or some of the other RPS34 men on here will pop in. BTW, is your clutch return spring strong , Pedal position is vital for proper Power shift operation?

My first thoughts are that you are in early stages of the the bolts in the planetary
clutch hub failing. Heads broken off some, and some still holding tight enough to
hold squeeze the 0-rings and show minimal pressure, but not being able to hold the
outer stationary plates securely in place due to uneven clamping around the perimeter
of clutch plates when load is applied.------------------Loren

You can do a flow test like mEl suggested yourself without special tools, or get a really good idea of the flow. While your
tractor is running at 1200 RPM or so time the time it takes to raise the 3 point hitch in each power shift position. When the
seals were leaking in my 870 power shift it took 3 times as long to lift in certain shift positions. Test at different RPM's
also.

Good Job D K, I tried to post more info on the hitch test but the internet kept bouncing me last nite, you covered it nicely, thanks!

The C1 clutch discs are bad since the gauges show that you do not have any leaks. can be very common on these tractors. Check torque limiter while tractor is split.
