What are 970's going for in your neighborhood? I saw a white one without a cab sell for $9750 this past week. Nice shape, but not
mint. Are the days over when they sell for 4 grand? Bill

no i would have sold you a 1070 for 3 grand in 2020 if i know what iknow now , but in order to have a usable tractor you would have over 10grand invested now.
condition, condition ,condition! ,those are key factors to consider , paperwork supporting repairs, tires , what does not work that you know how to fix ?-- it is a buyer beware world , these tractors are 50 yrs old, lots of nut jockeys have rode them hard and put them away wet ,

Jim,

You hit the nail right on the head. Hard to believe those 70 series are 50 years old now. I'm farming with the tractors I wanted brand new now that they are old-just like me. Sure are some well built machines, but that doesn't mean they can't be abused. Don

Newest tractor here is a 83 model. I get as good a crop as those with 400,000 dollar tractors....

The 70 series tractors struggle to bring 7-8 grand around here. There isnt many fellas left that knows how to fix the Case power shift transmission, and that scares people off. I wouldnt hesitate to buy a 8 speed 970 or 1070. Fact is, you really dont see very many guys using 50 year old tractors. I know TMR mixers take a lot of them out.

Bill, Condition of tractor makes the big difference around here.Seen a 870 diesel open station P.S. tranny it sold for 9000 but tranny was redone a year ago. Tho engine never touched. Last year seen a 770 and 870 sell for 8000 there engines were poor shape but we're bought by someone wanting the 8 speed Trans for building pulling tractors.Have seen sell cheaper but you would have to spend large $$$ to make worth using.Hard to find any 8 speed tractors around here. The 2 8 speed 770,s that sold on Lorens estate sale would of sold for alot more in the midwest.I would like to find a nice 2090 eight speed.

I bought a 970 8 speed for $800 in the last year. It was super ugly, but I drove it onto the trailer under its own power.

Condition is everything.

I've seen those prices here in Ontario as well, BUT, i tried to sell a rough but functional 1070 with a new crown gear and pinion for $5500 and the only person who showed up to even look was a kid who couldnt grasp the concept that the powershift didnt have a neutral and almost launched it through the wall of the shed.
